Studying a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology at the New York Institute of Technology- Vancouver Campus University has been a rich experience in many aspects such as career improvement, cultural diversity learning, and living with life-quality in Vancouver.

The University Quality

According to U.S. News & World Report, the New York Tech ranks in the regional (North) universities listing—this year, 2020, to No. 34. For ten consecutive years, the New York Institute of Technology has ranked among the North’s top 50 universities. I appreciate how the University is well organized and has reliable administrative and education staff. I could count on excellent, responsible, and dedicated professors who implement many ways to help us build our careers outside or inside Canada.

Campus life

The University campus in Vancouver Downtown has a gorgeous view, and we can join classes less stressed with those privileges scenes of Vancouver City. The cultural diversity is part of this journey, with many other international students from many countries. We can share cultural habits and learn from different experiences.

COVI-19 pandemic experience- phase 1

During the difficult COVID pandemic quarantine and moving to online learning in March 2020, I could learn with my experienced professor Dr. Gregory Greg some powerful tools and techniques involved in online learning. I am glad to have this experience in NYIT, where every online learning is so well delivered.

COVID-19 pandemic experience- phase 2

After 4 months of attending just online classes, we could finally return to in-person classes for the last term of the year 2020 in September. For this time, everything looks different on campus. Masks mandatory, social areas closed, hands sanitizing, temperature measuring, social distancing seats and some students attending the online class. Instead of all those COVID protocols, it was an exciting experience to see each other and interact in person.

Working on Campus- My Teaching Assistant job

Starting in September 2020, my first job in Canada as Teaching Assistant of Multimedia Authoring program. It has been an amazing experience to review all the programs, become familiar with them, and improve my instructional technology knowledge. As we have synchronous learning, I assist both using the Canvas platform and Zoom, in-person and online. Teaching is the best way to learn, and it has been wonderful to learn with students’ questions. Part of my job is to engage students at the online learning platform through discussions, attending privately or in groups by Zoom and posting some tutorial videos about the main technology tools used in multimedia.
