…Evaluate progress on the strategic plan, make course corrections, measure impact and scale effective approaches for using technology to transform learning.
I designed this assessment for grade 2 students, science class. The unit topic is “Life Cycle.” The purpose of this formative assessment is to access student’s previous knowledge about Life Cycle, and what they think about animals needs to grow and reflect about sustainability through comparing First Nation people living in nature. During this inquiry process, the teacher will facilitate and conduct students in their reflections.
The goal in this formative assessment is to obtain student’s reflections on how animals grow, their needs to grow, and how to interact with them in nature, having a sustainability living.
When designing this assessment, I consider how this kind of assessment provides me, as a teacher, the ability to access student’s thinking and reflections, also to enable me to give them descriptive feedback. After this assessment, it allows me to reflect on their needs to plan the next stage of learning.
In this assessment, the teacher’s responsibility is to conduct student’s reflections and thinking through the questions, and promoting discussions between their pears, providing them an understanding of Life Cycles and sustainability. The student’s responsibility is thinking, interact in the discussions with their peers, reflect, and take notes.
This formative assessment will support student learning when it provides discussion, reflection, and taking notes of their thinking; also, while the teacher conducts the discussions during the process and provides feedback in the sticker’s reflections.
