…Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather input on the plan, celebrate successes and engage in a continuous improvement cycle.

I designed this assessment for grade 2 students, science class. The unit topic is “Life Cycle”. The purpose of this summative assessment is to access students’ understanding of the Life Cycle and its connection with environmental necessities for animals and plants to survive. Also, this summative assessment allows teachers to access students’ critical thinking about the topic by illustrating the habitat and their responsibility to take care of the environment and “living things”, plants and animals.

This summative assessment aims to obtain students’ understanding in Life Cycle, animals and plants’ need to survive, and human responsibilities in the environment.

When designing this assessment, I considered how this kind of assessment provides me, as a teacher, the ability to access students’ critical thinking and give them descriptive feedback. This assessment allows an exhibition for the school community, providing reliability and validity by sharing the results with other teachers and enabling teachers to share and discuss. The school community feedback and the students’ achievements are a valuable tool for me, as a teacher, to reflect in my unit plan goals and design.

In this assessment, the teacher’s responsibility is to conduct students creating and applying their understanding through the Canvas painting and the online video, recording their discussions and editing. The students’ responsibilities are to apply their critical thinking by creating the Canvas painting, and providing their reflections, presenting them orally for the recordings.

This summative assessment will support student learning when creating, applying the understanding and by reflections and discussions presented orally for the video recording. The video allows students self-assessment and valuable feedback. Also, it will enable record as much the students need to achieve their goal. The video and the painting represent the understanding of the unit, and it will be exhibited at the school, providing feedback not only from the teacher but also from other students, parents, and other teachers.
