WHAT: Facebook page campaign
Social Networking for the Greater Good
The Facebook page is a social media tool that allows connection with the community. Students are guided in using Facebook to create a page that will promote cultural understanding, promote diversity, and help improve global awareness. The goal of the site is to help students learn more about the world and the need to be culturally aware. According to 21st-century education, it is essential to provide students with the opportunity to use technology and guide them in a better practice to critically use online resources. The cultural awareness and social connection allow their improvement in their digital citizenship, according to ISTE 1 and BC Ministry of education framework.


WHY
The Facebook page campaign aligns with the ISTE 1c because it provides teachers with the opportunity to design a lesson engaging students in using technology critically. First of all, the instructor can lead a discussion, teaching how to evaluate online resources, assess data with credibility and respecting copyright against plagiarism. Additionally it is essential guide students in their digital fingerprint awareness, creating a better understanding their responsibilities in using social media. This campaign project contributes to positive social change, using the collaborative tool to engage in virtual social action and leverage online strategies, such as social & cultural awareness.
HOW
The Facebook page campaign provides opportunities for students to work collaboratively online, creating posts to cultural awareness. The activity requires them online resources, design, critical thinking to write the components of the post. Students need to be accurate in their sources through these processes, paraphrase, and discuss critically without bias in the subjects. The summative assessment is the final page with the references cited, design, responsible discussions and campaign insights.
