Professional Development Workshop

Using STEAM in Your Classroom

This professional development (PD) session will introduce the NASA website to art teachers as a STEAM tool to help the educators blend technology and science into their teaching activities. The instructor will engage trainees in different activities based on the NASA learning website, and all the activities must align with the ISTE standards and BC Digital Framework protocols. The purpose is to help art teachers increase the core competence level of their students by implementing science and technology in the learning environment. In addition, the teaching activities under the STEAM model will help educators and students acquire or boost the abilities of digital citizenship, critical/creative thinking, problem-solving and decision making.

The instructor will accomplish this PD session with the participants in two days, and the total time of the training will be 8.5 hours. The first half of the Pd session will be 4.5 hours on the first day, including two activities (Ice Breaker and formative activity). In the second half, participants will attend an Ice Breaker and two activities. They will also complete a significant activity by the end of the training during another 4-hour training on day 2. The timeline shall stay unchanged, otherwise posted.

(The instructor designs some elements in training from the data of a pre-assessment Pre-course Survey)
